Women's Depression

By Tony Papas

A privilege of the female gender since it targets at least one in eight women at some stage of their life. A disease that each of them has the right to overcome. Depression is a mental disorder characterized by strong emotions sorrow, pessimism, despair, guilt and loss of interest in life. Is one of the most common mental diseases of our time and can occur in people of any age, gender, socio-economic status or nationality. Usually it is an individual transient response to sad situations such as a beloved person's death, divorce or business failure.

Women VS Men depression

Depression occurs at twice the percentage in women than in men. During their lives, about 20% of women and 10% of men will experience depression. Women are considered a high-risk group because of hormonal changes during the period cycle, pregnancy and menopause. Other factors favoring the onset of depression in women are the work stress, family obligations and social roles. Studies have shown that single mothers are three times as likely to have depression. The disease can be treated with medication (antidepressants), psychotherapy or combination of both methods. Depression can be cured, provided the patient seeks help. An important role plays the emotional support from the people surrounding the woman. The depressive woman should be treated with understanding and surrounded with love.
